Ryan Lockhart

Singer-Songwriter | Rock Hill, South Carolina

Ryan Lockhart is a South Carolina–born songwriter whose work bridges the intensity of the Southern hardcore scene and the restraint of traditional folk songwriting. After emerging with Funeral Chic, he shifted his focus to stripped-down, narrative-driven folk music. His songs explore outsiders, ghosts, and heathen mythology—works of fiction, for legal purposes—told with restraint, dark humor, and a distinctly Southern perspective. He has released two EPs, Straitjacket Blues and The Finest Ugly Man In The South, along with the full-length album Son Of A Coal Miner’s Daughter. His writing is influenced by Bruce Springsteen and John Prine, emphasizing clarity, storytelling, and emotional weight.Along the way, Ryan has opened for Tim Barry, Cory Branan, Sunny War, Yes Ma’am, Lightnin' Luke, and Pete Bernhard.

Press & Praise
"Ryan’s transition from hardcore to country wasn’t planned; it was born out of necessity and a deep-seated love for the music he grew up with, like Springsteen and John Prine. The songs on his upcoming album, releasing on September 27th through Bitter Melody Records, have been brewing for years, waiting for the right moment to be unleashed. The single we’re premiering today is a perfect example of Ryan’s knack for blending his hardcore roots with the storytelling tradition of Americana."
